NCC Set To Deploy 5G Services In Nigeria, Signs MOU With NIGCOMSAT.

The Nigerian Communications Commission NCC has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian Commutations Satellite NIGCOMSAT on the use of C- Band spectrum for Fifth Generation (5G) services in Nigeria. NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Prof Umar Danbatta at the ceremony held at the Commission headquarters in Abuja said the gesture was informed by decisions reached by both agencies to release contagious quantum of spectrum in the 3.5GHZ band for early deployment of the technology. He further allay fears on the use of 5G in Nigeria insisting that concerns raised by Nigerians have been adequately addressed. Earlier in his remarks, the NCC chairman, Prof Adeolu Akande represented by a board member Chief Uche Onwude restated confidence that 5G services already deployed in countries like the united States, United kingdom among others will enhance network improvements including higher connection speed mobility and capacity. Having done with this phase of the MOU, the NCC says the next line of action is getting approval for utilization of the spectrum to deploy the technology by the National Frequency Management Council chaired by the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy,Dr Isa Pantami.
