Mid-Autumn Festival: China-Nigeria Identify Cultural Exchange As Critical Tool To Enhanced Ties

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival, Harvest Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, is a harvest festival celebrated in Chinese culture.

Speaking at an occasion to commemorate the Festival, the Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, said the cultural exchange is key to strengthening ties with Nigeria, using the Mid-Autumn Festival as a platform to showcase friendship and shared values.

He said the cultural exchanges remain a vital bridge for deepening cooperation and mutual understanding between China and Nigeria.

Ambassador Dunhai said the Mid-Autumn Festival is not only about family reunion and happiness, it is also a heartfelt expression of warmest wishes for the China-Nigeria friendship.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Mukhtar Muhammad, underscored the power of cultural exchange in strengthening Nigeria-China relations.

He identified shared traditions, historic coincidences and creative economy as pillars for enhanced cooperation noting that emphasising that the two countries share similar cultural values rooted in family, community, and thanksgiving.

He further added that the historic significance of both nations celebrating its National Days on 1 October is a symbol of aligned destinies and a symbolic national bond.

High point of the event was the performance of traditional opera, dance, martial arts, acrobatics, and music inspired by classic Chinese poetry by Shenzhen artists and group as well as the Nigerian cultural troups.
