Justice Mary Peter-Odili has bowed out of the Supreme Court of Nigeria following her retirement from public service, having attained the 70 years mandatory retirement age on May 12, 2022.
A veledictory session held in her honour was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad at the main courtroom of the apex in Abuja.
In her veledictory speech, the former justice of the supreme court used the occasion to thank God and different individuals who made it possible to attain the height she reached in life.
She also advised governments at all levels to pay serious attention on the issues of youth employment, saying that the situation is getting out of hand and mostly responsible for state of insecurity ravaging the country.
The ceremony attracted people from all walks of life as the CJN described the retired justice as one of the best brains at the apex court adding that she will be highly mixed especially her erudite judgments.
Born on 12 May 1952, in Amudi Obizi, Ezinihitte-Mbaise, Imo State, Nigeria, Justice Odili attended the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu Campus where she studied law between 1972 and 1976.
Odili’s retirement has further depleted the number of justices on the apex court to 16, just as another of her colleague, Justice Ejembi Eko, is expected to also bow out of the apex court on 23, May 2022.
