JAMB Raises Concerns Over Low Turnout For Mop-Up UTME.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed concern over the low turnout of candidates for the 2025 mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), conducted nationwide.

According to the Board, over 80 percent of the 98,232 candidates eligible for the mop-up examination failed to show up.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who monitored the exercise at the 23rd Technology CBT Centre in NAF Valley Estate, Abuja, explained that the mop-up exam is intended for candidates with genuine reasons such as illness or verified technical issues for missing the main UTME.

He attributed the poor turnout to stringent security measures implemented to curb impersonation and examination malpractice.

Prof. Oloyede further explained that the unusually high number of candidates scheduled for this year’s mop-up was a response to widespread claims of absenteeism during the main UTME.

The JAMB Registrar however assured that candidates who falsely claimed exclusion from the main exam but failed to appear for the mop-up would be held accountable.

While the results of the mop-up exercise are expected to be ready by Saturday, Prof. Oloyede said the Board may delay their release until Monday 30th June to allow for additional scrutiny and the elimination of potentially fraudulent entries.

End.
