INEC Tasks Security Agencies On Vote Buying, Other Infractions.

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC and Security Agencies have restated commitment to uphold electoral integrity in the conduct of the Anambra Governorship and FCT Area Council Polls.

This is as INEC hosted the first regular Inter – Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security in Abuja.

Speaking at the opening session, INEC chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu challenged the security agencies to use lessons learnt from the success of the Ondo Governorship election as a yardstick to ensure further improvement in the conduct of future elections.

Prof Yakubu further raised concerns over the trend of vote buying and the need for the security agencies to do the needful.

In their Responses, the National Security Advisor, Nuhu Ribadu represented by the Director, Internal Security,Office of the National Security Adviser, Hassan Abdullahi and IGP Kayode Egbetokun represented by CP Abayomi Shogunle,CP Election Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation assured of efforts by the security agencies to check all forms of threats against the conduct of free,fair and credible elections in Nigeria.

The meeting is the first in the series of Inter – Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security to be held in 2025 before the Anambra Governorship election.
