INEC Steps In To Resolve PDP Leadership Crisis

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has convened a meeting to address the lingering leadership tussle within the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The meeting, held at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, had representatives of both the Turaki-led and Wike-led factions of the party in attendance.

In his opening remarks, INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, said the Commission’s intervention followed a flood of contradictory letters received from the rival leadership groups, a situation he described as a threat to internal party stability.

Prof Amupitan expressed concern over the prolonged crisis, urging the factions to embrace dialogue and internal reconciliation.

The meeting held behind closed doors, later ended with both factions separately briefing the media on the issues discussed and their positions.

It is expected that the Commission’s intervention, combined with the stated willingness of both factions to pursue a peaceful resolution, may help restore stability within the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
