INEC Approves 2025 Promotion Of 471 Junior Staff

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has approved the 2025 promotion of 471 junior staff (Grade Levels 03–06), following recommendations by the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee (APDC), in line with the Commission’s Staff Conditions of Service.

This was announced by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement issued after INEC’s regular weekly meeting held in Abuja.

According to Olumekun, a total of 515 staff were shortlisted for the exercise. Of these, 214 were promoted to Grade Level 07, 134 to GL06, 106 to GL05, and 17 to GL04.

He noted that the promotion of junior staff concludes the first phase of the 2025 promotion exercise, adding that the process for promoting senior staff has already commenced.

“Staff promotion is a routine exercise. The Commission remains committed to regular, merit-based promotion and the overall welfare of its workforce,” Olumekun stated.

“We urge all staff to rededicate themselves to service, particularly in the conduct of elections and other electoral activities.”

The meeting, chaired by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, also reviewed preparations for several upcoming elections, including the Anambra State Governorship election, the Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and party primaries for the Ekiti and Osun State Governorship elections.
