The International day for the preservation of the ozone layer is celebrated on September 16,every year. The day commemorate the date for the signing of the Montreal protocol on substance that depletes the ozone layer in 1987. The ozone layer is a delicate layer of gas in the earth stratosphere that absorbs most of the sun ultraviolet rays responsible for numerous diseases like cataracts and skin cancer. At a press conference to observe the day in Abuja, the minister of Environment, Dr Mohammed Abubakar highlighted various initiatives adopted by the ministry to implement the Montreal protocol in Nigeria. He further indicated what Nigeria stands to benefit from the soon to be commissioned system house project for formulation of ozone friendly systems in the country.
