The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON) and the Nigerian Interfaith Forum (NIF) have condemned what they describe as economic sabotage by the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN), accusing the group of attempting to blackmail the nation into approving a ₦1.5 trillion backdoor subsidy.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the National Chairman of the Nigerian Interfaith Forum, Rev. Matthew Ayodele, said DAPPMAN’s demands not only threaten to sabotage the economy but could deepen poverty and derail national development efforts.
He said the move is a direct attempt by the association to hold the country to ransom at a time the nation is making strategic gains in domestic refining.
The coalition also announced plans to take legal action against DAPPMAN and mobilize nationwide protests to safeguard what they described as the interests of the Nigerian people.
They called on all Nigerians to stand in solidarity with the Dangote Refinery project, warning that no cartel should be allowed to derail Nigeria’s path to energy self-sufficiency.
