Governorship Race: Umeoji Relegated Soludo To 2nd Place In Anambra Opinion Poll

The incumbent Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has been defeated by Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji in an opinion poll conducted from the 21 local local government areas of the state ahead of the forthcoming election.

According to an extensive survey conducted over a six-week period by the Nigeria Democratic Research Institute, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji scored 54.6% to emerge winner to be followed by Governor Soludo with 22.3%. Sen. Tony Nwoye came third with 15.8%, Sir Paul Chukwuma emerged fourth with 4.5%, the fifth posting was occupied by Dr. Obiora Okonkwo with 2.1% while Barth Nwibe got the sixth position with 0.7%.

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Director General of the institute that comprise twelve independent research organizations also known as Anambra Opinion Polls, Tabuko Kennedy called on candidates to be civil by shunning character assassination but engage on issue-based campaigns.

The Director General while expressing the institute’s commitment to fostering transparency, democracy, and voter education, urged the electorates to be involve fully in the process to shape the future of the state through their votes.

The group however, promised to monitor political trends leading up to the elections.
