In a major political realignment, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Governor formalised the move during a courtesy visit to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, where he met with the National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
Pledge of Loyalty
Speaking during the visit, Governor Fintiri pledged his “full loyalty” to the party, stating that his decision was driven by a commitment to deliver electoral value in the upcoming general elections.
”I am here officially to pay a courtesy call on the National Chairman and the members of the NWC to further pledge my full loyalty to the party,” Fintiri said. “We have come to work and ensure that we deliver on the electoral value that we bring to the party in the next general election. That is what matters to our party, the APC.”
Endorsement of President Tinubu
The Governor also offered a strong endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the President deserves a second term based on the results of his economic reforms.
Acknowledging the initial difficulties caused by the administration’s macroeconomic policies, Fintiri noted, “Yes, it was rough for most of us because we are not used to it. But it has given a very positive result to us, and the country is really working in the right direction. It seems to be agreed by all of us that there is light at the end of the tunnel.”
APC Leadership Response
Welcoming the Governor, National Chairman Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda described Fintiri as a “fitted political asset” whose track record in Adamawa State—particularly in infrastructure and state coordination—adds immense value to the party.
”He is a progressive with a progressive mind,” Yilwatda stated. “He wouldn’t have settled anywhere else than the APC, where his policies would be best appreciated and where he can fit into the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President.”
Addressing the state of the opposition, the Chairman added that the APC remains focused on winning. “It is our duty to organize; it is the opposition’s duty to organize themselves. We are very happy if they can’t, because our duty is to ensure we win the election.”
Synergy with the Executive
On the recent visits of serving ministers to the party’s headquarters, Yilwatda explained that the party is fostering a “clear synergy” with the executive branch to ensure that the promises made to Nigerians are being strictly implemented and supervised.
