Gender Violence : Group Demands Amendment Of Gender Policy.

Concerns have been raised over the rise in gender base violence across the world. The situation is not different in Nigeria with over 30 percent of women and girls aged 15 to 49 having experienced sexual abuse. The most common acts of violence against women and girls includes sexual harassment, domestic violence, trafficking, early and forced marriages, female genital mutilation, among others. This Development may have informed this meeting organiser by the NOI Polls in Abuja with consensus from participants indicating that the male folks who are mostly perpetrators of the acts desist from it and change their attitudes towards women. They further called for amendment of conflicting sessions of the Gender policy document. Galvanizing support for women in governance was also top on the agenda of the meeting with participants initiating strategies that will help mainstream them into politics.
