The non- oil export sector of the Nigerian economy over the years has experienced drastic neglect by successive governments who focused more on oil for their foreign earnings.
But with the assumption of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, the focus was redirected to economic diversification of the non-oil sector by moving away from the nation’s monolithic economy, petroleum products.
Addressing news men ahead of the forthcoming National Conference on Non-Oil Export in Abuja, the Executive Director, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Ezra Yakusak said the event would be a major driver in the diversification of the Nigerian economy with the resultant effects of boosting foreign exchange earnings.
The NEPC boss said in the last 15 years, the naira has recorded over three hundred percent devaluation which has been attributed to Nigeria’s inability to earn more foreign exchange from other products due to the country’s mono-cultural economy. The National Conference on Non-Oil Export with the theme”Export For Survival” will also showcase the export potentials of Nigeria by exhibiting various non- oil exportable products.
