Failed Nigerian Banks Depositors Paid About N12 Billion In 30 Years – NDIC

IsSince the establishment of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC in 1989, the agency has been playing the critical role of protecting bank depositors against losing their entire savings as a result of banks’ failure. This is as a means of providing maximum insurance coverage from fifty thousand naira per depositor at its inception to five hundred thousand in 2010. The NDIC has so far paid about twelve billion naira to over five hundred and twenty seven thousand failed banks depositors. Addressing a news conference in commemoration of the thirty year anniversary of the corporation, the NDIC Managing Director, Umaru Ibrahim speaks on the journey so far.
