EU Differs On Religious Genocide Claims In Nigeria, Promises More Security Assistance

The European Union has disagreed with the recent narrative’s advancement of religious genocide in Nigeria by some western agents.

The Chairman of the European Union Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs and leader of the delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, David MacAllister disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja to mark the end of a two-and-a-half-day visit to Nigeria.

Describing the country as a strategic partner in Africa, Mr MacAllister said terrorism in Nigeria is not driven solely by ideology but by diverse factors like inequality, youth unemployment, communal conflicts, weak governance, and environmental stress.

While promising to deepen its existing cooperation with Nigeria in the area of insecurity, migration, and promoting sustainable development, the EU delegation pledged their support to building a stronger partnership with Nigeria under “Team Europe approach”.

The six-member relegation however, expressed concern over the malnutrition crisis and migration pressures in parts of northern Nigeria, noting that tackling humanitarian needs would significantly reduce irregular migration.
