Ahead of the September 21st Edo state Governorship election, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmood Yakubu says only six political Parties have so far submitted the names of their candidates as stipulated by law.
The INEC Chairman disclosed this at the first regular quarterly meeting with leaders of political parties at the commission headquarters in Abuja.
Prof Yakubu who emphasised reasons why the parties should abide by the time table released for the off cycle elections said there willl be no extension of time for them to upload the names of their candidates to the commission’s dedicated portal.
Prof Yakubu who also briefed the party leaders on the Ondo governorship election, said party primaries will commence on 6th April 2024.
Responding on behalf of the political parties, Chairman of Inter- Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Alhaji Yusuf Dantalle reaffirmed the commitment of the council to support the efforts of INEC to sanitize the electoral system.
The meeting later went into a close door session with key focus on the forthcoming off cycle Governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states.
