Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle said thorough investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of explosion at the of 20 September 2025 at Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Kaduna facility.
He said this when he paid a visit to the scene of the ordnance explosion to have an on the spot assessment of the incident.
A statement signed by the Principal superintendent of Press, Pat Ituke on behalf of the Director Information and Public Relations said the Minister who was briefed on the immediate cause and response measures at the scene expressed concern over the incident but commended the military for swift response.
According to the statement, preliminary reports indicates that the explosion occurred while specialists were concluding the destruction of remaining quantities of expired materials, including ammonium nitrate, primer caps, propellants and other hazardous substances.
Mr Matawalle after being assured by military that the situation was under control as DICON will continues to operate within established safety protocols, promised to give all the necessary support to prevent future recurrence.
“Appropriate support will be provided to affected personnel and their families,” he said.
