A coalition of civil society organisations is calling for the immediate removal of Hon. Oboku Oforji, Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Examinations, over allegations of intimidation and extortion of funds from Nigeria’s examination bodies.
Convener of the Social Transparency and Youth Leadership Advancement Initiative, Comrade Okpanachi Jacob, made the demand while addressing a joint news conference in Abuja.
The coalition highlighted several complaints of corrupt practices allegedly linked to the lawmaker, warning that acts of intimidation and continuous extortion are unacceptable to both the civil society community and the Nigerian public.

Commending Nigeria’s examination bodies for recent reforms aimed at strengthening their operations, the coalition insisted that such institutions must be shielded from any form of interference from individuals or groups.
