There is no doubt that Oil Producing Communities in the country over the years have experience their own fair share of security challenges.
As a region that lays the golden egg for the nation’s economy, the need to change the narrative and work out appropriate solutions may have prompted this meeting between the chief of defence staff ,General Lucky Irabor with Governor’s of Oil producing communities at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
The CDS in his remarks said the meeting was called at the instance of President Buhari over the state of growing insecurity in the affected states resulting in dwindling oil production occasioned by oil theft, illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism, amongst other economic crimes.
General Irabor affirmed that as critical stakeholders, the Governors are expected to play a more significant role to nip to the bud the ugly challenges. On his part, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State welcomed the collaboration saying it will provide solutions to activities of economic sabotage in the affected states.
Other Governors that attended the meeting includes; Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State,Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
