The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on troops of the Joint Task Force South South, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in their mission to secure the nation’s economic assets.
General Oluyede gave the charge on Friday during the commissioning of an ultra-modern Non-Commissioned Officers’ (NCO) accommodation block and a remodeled conference hall at the OPDS headquarters in Igbogene, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Focus on Economic Security and Discipline
Addressing the personnel, the CDS emphasized the critical role of the Niger Delta in Nigeria’s economic sustainability. He warned troops against engaging in illegal activities or compromising their positions while safeguarding vital oil and gas infrastructure.
”The Armed Forces must remain steadfast in their legitimate duties,” Oluyede stated, adding that his leadership remains committed to improving the working conditions and general well-being of personnel through proposed enhanced welfare packages.
Infrastructure and Welfare
The Commander of JTF SS OPDS, Rear Admiral Olugbenga Oladipo, noted that the newly commissioned 24-apartment NCO quarters were designed to boost troop morale. The facility is fully equipped with:
- 24-hour solar power supply
- Integrated water facilities
- Climate control (cooling systems) and beddings
Rear Admiral Oladipo explained that these projects align with the CDS’s “Military Strategic Philosophy,” which identifies personnel welfare as a foundational pillar for operational success. He reaffirmed the Task Force’s commitment to deterring militancy, stopping sea robbery, and protecting lives and property within the region.

The event was attended by several high-ranking military officials, including:
- Major General Emmanuel Emekah, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division Nigerian Army.
- Air Vice Marshal JJ Ijugigal, representing the Air Officer Commanding, Mobility Command.
- Brigadier General Nurulhayat Mohammed, Commander, 16 Brigade.
- Principal Staff Officers from Defence Headquarters.
The CDS concluded the ceremony by commending Rear Admiral Oladipo for his initiative in executing projects that add tangible value to the military system.
