Bye-Elections: LP Storms INEC, Demands Upload Of Its Candidates On Portal

The Labour Party stormed the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC demanding the immediate upload of the names of their elected candidates on the INEC portal.

The party’s Deputy National Youth Leader, Barry Johnson who led the protest in Abuja, described the omission of candidates in the Abure led leadership of the party by the electoral body as undue interference in political matters.

Similarly, the Chairman, Enugu State LP Chairman, Uchenna Agbo and other party officials urged the INEC Chairman to comply with electoral laws, emphasizing that the commission’s role is to conduct elections, not influence political parties.

Responding on behalf of the INEC Chairman, National Commissioner Abdullahi Zuru assured the protesters that INEC would remain independent and operate strictly within the framework of the law.

The protest, organized jointly with civil society organizations issued INEC a seven-day ultimatum to upload the names of LP’s elected leaders.
The party warned that failure to comply would see protesters from all 36 states converge at the INEC headquarters in full force.
