Many Nigerians woke up on the morning of Saturday February 16 to the news of postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The action not only cost the government huge sums of revenue loss, it also affected the ordinary Nigerian who traveled to different locations to exercise their civic responsibility. While most observers have attributed the resultant effect of the development to voter apathy during the rescheduled elections, the national Union of road transport workers as part of effort to check the trend has initiated a fifty percent transport subsidy for Nigerians traveling for the election.
