ARCN Hosts Spanish Delegation, Strengthens Collaboration On Women And Youth Empowerment In Aquaculture

The Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) has hosted a delegation from the Spanish Corporation, led by Beatriz Navalón, to deepen ongoing collaboration with the Regional Center of Excellence in Aquaculture, which is domiciled within ARCN.

Navalón stated that the purpose of the visit was to formally brief the council on the partnership focused on empowering women through aquaculture initiatives implemented by the Regional Center of Excellence.

According to a statement by Khadijat O. Ameen, Head of Public Relations, the Executive Secretary, management staff of ARCN, and representatives of the Regional Center of Excellence expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed their commitment to the collaboration.

The Coordinator of the Regional Center of Excellence in Aquaculture, Dr. Charity Obetta, also thanked the Spanish Corporation for the support, noting that the initiative arrived at a crucial time for many Nigerian youths and women. She explained that the center is strengthening the aquaculture value chain by empowering beneficiaries in fish seed production, table fish production, processing, trade, and feed production.

Dr. Aliyu Shuaibu Madugu, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, highlighted past programs facilitated through ARCN’s agricultural research and development efforts, noting their significant contributions to Nigeria’s food sustainability initiatives.
