Apo Resettlement Robbery: FCT Police Neutralize Gang Leader, Recover Assault Rifles and Ammunition

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, have neutralized the leader of a notorious robbery and kidnapping gang during a targeted operation in Kurape Hills. The gang had been linked to the armed attack on Zone E Extension, Apo Resettlement, which occurred on June 23, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, credible intelligence had revealed that the gang crossed from the Nasarawa forest into the FCT via the Karshi forest, plotting another deadly operation. Acting swiftly, operatives traced the suspects to their hideout and launched a tactical raid.

“On sighting the police team, the suspects opened fire, prompting a fierce gun battle. The gang leader, identified as Umar Manu also known as ‘Small’, was fatally wounded during the exchange. Other gang members fled the scene with suspected gunshot injuries,” the statement read.

Items recovered from the scene include:
One (1) AK-49 rifle with breech number A529,One (1) AK-47 rifle (breech number defaced,One (1) additional AK-49 rifle (breech number defaced),Three (3) magazines and Eleven (11) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition

Two officers, including the Commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, sustained minor injuries during the operation. Both have been treated and discharged.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, commended the bravery and professionalism of the operatives involved. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements from the FCT and its surrounding areas.

“This should serve as a stern warning to criminal gangs: anyone who dares to challenge the resolve of the FCT Police will face the full force of the law,” CP Adewale declared.
