Anambra Guber: Why We Are Deploying Over 34,000 Personnel- IGP

A total of 34,587 personnel would be deployed for the Nov. 6 gubernatorial election in Anambra State. This the police authorities say is inview of the outcome of the election security threat analysis conducted by the Force intelligence bureau. At a meeting with Police officers from the rank of Commissioners of Police (CPs) and above held at the Force headquarters Abuja, Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba stayed that the deployment would consist of conventional police officers, Police Mobile Force, the Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Forces, Explosive Ordinance Unit, Force Intelligence Bureau, INTERPOL, Special Protection Unit and the medical team. He added that three helicopters for aerial surveillance and detachments of Marine Police operatives would also be deployed to ensure safe, secure and credible electoral process in Anambra. The police boss however warned persons with motive to undermine the conduct of the election to have a change of mind. IGP Baba further task police commissioners across the states and the federal capital territory to strengthen security architecture in their commands to prevent anticipated security threat especially during the ember months.
