The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of intervention funds to 271 public tertiary institutions across the country, covering universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
Speaking at the 2026 Annual Disbursement Meeting held in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arch. Sonny Echono, disclosed that each university will receive over ₦2.5 billion, polytechnics over ₦1.8 billion each, while colleges of education will get more than ₦2 billion respectively.
According to him, the funds approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2026 intervention cycle are aimed at strengthening critical physical infrastructure, enhancing academic programmes, boosting research and innovation, and driving the overall transformation of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the TETFund Board of Trustees and former Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, expressed concern over delays tactics by some beneficiary institutions in accessing previously approved intervention funds.
Meanwhile, stakeholders at the meeting emphasised the need for prudent and judicious utilisation of the funds by beneficiary institutions to ensure maximum impact.
The meeting was attended by vice-chancellors, rectors and provosts of public tertiary institutions, who were formally presented with offer letters for the 2026 TETFund Intervention Cycle.
