Ahead of next year’s general election,the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it has deployed about 50% of non sensitive election materials to different locations across the country.
INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu disclosed this when a delegation from the African Union Pre election Mission paid the commission a visit to ascertain the level of preparedness for the 2023 general election.
He assured of efforts by the commission to conduct transparent, free, fair and credible innovation driven elections.
The INEC boss however raised concerns onnissues concerning insecurity in some parts of the country. Earlier, the leader of the delegation and former depuy President of South Africa, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka stated that the purpose of their mission is to ascertain INEC’s level of preparedness in regard to funding, engagement with relevant stakeholders among others.
The delegation further advocated need for continuous engagement with key stakeholders in the nations electoral process to ensure the conduct of a hitch free poll
