The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of military personnel and their families to ensure the continued security of the nation.

Speaking at an inter-denominational service held Sunday at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, General Musa stated that the well-being of the Armed Forces remains a top priority for the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration. The service was part of a series of events marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day.

In his remarks, the Minister expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by the Nigerian military. “We honour with deep reverence the brave men and women who paid the supreme price in service to our country. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Musa said. He also acknowledged those currently serving, praising their resilience in the face of national security threats.

The Minister urged all Nigerians to support the government’s efforts, expressing confidence that the country would overcome its current challenges, including terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry. “We shall overcome them,” he insisted.

Delivering the sermon titled “Gratitude, Encouragement and Spiritual Security,” Most Rev. Uche Okafor of the Presbyterian Church, Abuja, praised the military for their unique role in confronting danger to protect the citizenry. Drawing from 2 Chronicles 32:5–8, the cleric encouraged the troops to remain steadfast and courageous.

However, the Reverend also issued a call for professionalism, urging the military to remain neutral and patriotic as the 2027 general elections approach. He prayed for the spiritual protection of the personnel, noting that their service is not only to the nation but to humanity and God.

The event was attended by high-ranking government and military officials, including:

  • Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence
  • General Olufemi Oloyede, Chief of Defence Staff
  • Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, Chief of Army Staff
  • Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Chief of Naval Staff (represented)
  • Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, Chief of Air Staff (represented)
  • Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence

Also present were representatives of the Senate President and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, and various heads of government agencies.
