The breakthrough was announced in a statement by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, following a coordinated operation by the Command’s “Scorpion Squad.” The crackdown followed a direct mandate from the Commissioner of Police, CP Miller Dantawaye, to apprehend the perpetrators of the “one-chance” attack.
The Investigation and Arrest
Between January 5 and 10, 2026, police operatives utilized reconstructive digital intelligence to track the victim’s mobile phone. The trail led to the Dei-Dei, Dakwa, and Dan-Tata communities within the Kubwa area.
The suspects in custody have been identified as:
Saifullahi Yusuf, 22, a resident of Dei-Dei.
Ishau Yusuf, 24, (biological brother to Saifullahi).
Minka’ilu Jibril (alias Dan-Hajia).
A fourth accomplice, identified as Musa, remains at large.
The Fatal Encounter
Preliminary investigations reveal that on January 5, at approximately 5:50 p.m., Barrister Chigbo boarded the suspects’ black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway. Once inside, the suspects reportedly wound up the tinted windows and threatened her with weapons, demanding a ransom for her release.
Police reports indicate that when the victim refused to comply, she was physically assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle. She sustained fatal injuries from the fall.
The suspects confessed to stealing the victim’s Android phone and selling it in Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. According to their confessions, Minka’ilu Jibril received ₦30,000, Saifullahi Yusuf took ₦15,000, while the remainder was split between Ishau Yusuf and the fleeing suspect, Musa.
