The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has cautioned Corps Members against abandoning their national service to travel abroad, warning that such actions attract stiff sanctions.

The Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, issued the warning while addressing 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps Members at the Osun State Orientation Camp in Ede, the Oyo State Orientation Camp in Iseyin, and the Ogun State Orientation Camp in Sagamu.

He urged the Corps Members to commit fully to the one-year national service and contribute meaningfully to the development of the country across all sectors.

Emphasizing that evasion of service and abscondment would not be tolerated, the DG advised Corps Members to complete their service and obtain their Certificate of National Service before considering any foreign travel.

General Nafiu also urged the Corps Members to prioritize their safety and avoid any ventures that could put their lives at risk. He further reminded them to strictly adhere to the NYSC dress code, noting that improper dressing is unacceptable within the Scheme.

“Dress responsibly, make good friends during the service year, and use your time productively,” he advised.

During the DG’s visit, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator, Mr. Agbor Ndoma Obim, presented the camp situation report, highlighting that cooperation among stakeholders had led to the smooth conduct of the orientation programme. He reported that 612 males and 778 females (a total of 1,390 Corps Members) were registered in Osun, while an additional 1,643 Corps Members (722 males and 921 females) were dislodged from Lagos to the camp.

In Oyo State, the Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Ola-Peters, disclosed that a total of 3,502 Corps Members (1,380 males and 2,122 females) had been registered and were ready to contribute to the development of the state.

Similarly, the NYSC Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, reported the registration of 2,602 Corps Members (1,148 males and 1,454 females). She noted that the Corps Members had adjusted well to camp life and were conducting themselves responsibly.

“All camp officials are diligently carrying out their duties with a strong sense of collaboration, ensuring a seamless orientation exercise,” Mrs. Nasamu stated.
