Gombe Set To Achieve Universal Health Coverage- Luggerewo
The Speaker of the Gombe State House of Assembly Hon. Abubakar Luggerewo says efforts are on to achieve universal health coverage in the North East State. The Speaker gave the indication at a 2 day workshop Organised in Abuja by the Legislative Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISDEL), and partners.
He said the Health Insurance Scheme bill passed by the Gombe State Assembly will create the provision for an equity fund of one percent of the state consolidated revenue fund for the less privilege. He added that the gestures is expected to compliment the efforts of the State Government to achieve UHC as well becoming a leading Nigerian state with prosperous and healthy citizens.
The speaker further expressed gratitude for the programme saying it will impact positively on the state health systems. On his part, the World Health Organization representative, Francis Ukwuije, said the WHO was leading support to the Legislative Network for Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria and other African countries.
On her part,the Executive Director LISDEL Mrs Juliana Abude -Aribo, said the objective of the capacity building was to deepen understanding of the legislature on health financing, UHC,and PHC objectives and policies. The theme of the 2 day capacity building initiative is “Enchancing Salience and Capacity of Gombe State House of Assembly to Catalyze Gombe’s Progress towards UHC.
