In what could be described as move to end the incessant strike in the nation’s Ivory towers, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu has inaugurated the Reconstituted Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) Re-negotiation Team of the 2009 Agreements with University-Based Unions.
Performing the ceremony at the federal ministry of education headquarters in Abuja, Mallam Adamu regretted that the re-negotiation of the 2009 Agreements between the Federal Government and the University-Based Staff Unions which commenced on Monday, 13th February 2017 had to dragged till date due to unforeseen circumstances.
He however urged the committee to deliver on their mandate and urgency the assignment demands especially with the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) The Minister further highlighted the terms of reference for the review of the draft proposed Federal Government and ASUU agreements.
Responding on behalf of the committee, it’s chairman Prof Nimi Briggs assured of their commitment to deliver within the agreed timeframe.
It is expected that the outcome of the committees report will chart a way forward in ongoing negotiation with the university based unions.
