EU EOM Commends Passage Of Electoral Act,Demands Further Action From INEC, Stakeholders.

The European Union Election Follow-up Mission to Nigeria has commended the joint effort of the National Assembly, Independent National Electoral Commission and civil society Organizations towards the successful passage of the 2022 Electoral act.

The Follow-up Mission headed by the member of the European Parliament and Former Chief Observer in 2019, Maria Arena stated this at a news conference in Abuja.

Arena applauded the passage of the electoral act 2022 saying the EU look forward to see more of such positive development ahead of the 2023 general elections.

She however emphasized reasons why INEC should improve on its operational delivery capacity especially as it relates to the challenges and risks in the use of BVAS.

Meanwhile, the EU ambassador to Nigeria, Samuela Isopi, in her remarks assured that the Mission will continue to engage with critical stakeholders including INEC to help address the short coming noticed in recently conducted off season elections.

Some of the key findings of the EU mission includes the implementation of 11 out of 30 recommendations made to INEC after the 2019 general elections.
