SGoF Advocates Conflict Management Skills Training for Surveyors.

The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGoF), Surv. Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin has expressed the importance of conflict management skills for surveyors in the country in view of the intricate nature of their tasks.

Surv. Adebomehin expressed this recently in Abuja while receiving a team of the National Peace Academy (NPA) of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), an agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by the Director of the academy, Dr. Bosede Awodola.

The SGoF said surveyors would usually be confronted with some unwilling persons of communities during demarcation work at border areas of both internal and international boundaries noting that communication that would engender peace and mutual understanding remain germane to the surveyors.

Adebomehin in a signed statement by the Head of Press and Public Relations Abu Michael pledged to ensure collaboration with IPCR for the training of surveyors and other staff of the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) at the Institute’s Peace Academy.

He promised to immediately activate the process for trainings of officials of the Department of Internal Boundary, and those of International Boundary towards in conflict management, resolution and negotiation skills.

The work of OSGoF according to Surv. Adebomehin was to help to determine boundaries, and as such surveyors relate with members of communities every now and then. According to him, making peace and establishment of good relations among communities at borders remain a major concern of OSGoF.

Earlier, Director of the academy, Dr. Awodola appreciated the mandates of OSGoF, an extra-ministerial Office of the Federal Government which she described as distinct and central to genuine development.

She assured the SGoF that the academy has the capacity to provide customized trainings depending on the various mandates of the MDAs.

Dr. Awodola mentioned that IPCR engaged in research, carryout intervention, and build capacity in areas of peace, conflict management and resolution as well as policy advice.

Dr. Awodola disclosed that the academy has also been relating with the National Boundary Commission (NBC) especially in conflict management capacity building for its staff.
