It all began like a normal day in the Nigerian Capital City, Abuja without any inclination by dealers of substandard products on what was ahead of them.

It was a covert operation hatched by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria with the support of joint security agencies to stormed Apo spare parts market in the Federal Capital Territory to rid Nigeria of substandard products by seizing compromised vehicle tyres.

The traders who were taken by surprise tried to hurriedly shut down their shops to evade the long arms of SON led task force but to no avail.

Seizures were made, shops sealed and a truck off-loaded compromised tyres arrested amidst resistance from the traders.

Some of the traders expressed their frustrations on the raid and seizure of their goods.

But the Standards Organisation of Nigeria insisted that unless the right thing is done, there will be no going back.

They also advised Nigerians on the danger of buying compromised vehicle tyres. The raid was a clear warning to dealers and intended dealers of SON’s resolve not to soft peddle in its constitutional mandate of making Nigeria’s markets safe and free from fake and substandard products.
