Nigeria Set To Work Towards Attaining UN Zero-Emission 2060 Benchmark – Onyeama
The Federal Government has expressed its determination towards attaining the 2060 target of zero-emission of the United Nations. \
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama disclosed this when the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All,
Damilola Ogunbiyi paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. He said effort has been put in place to achieve zero carbon emission to ensure seamless transition to clean energy.
The Minister however, applauded the UN special representative for ensuring that Gas which is a major revenue earner for Nigeria is recognised by the UN as a transition fuel.
The United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Damilola Ogunbiyi said for the 2060 target to be achieved by all nations, people need to be empowered and taken out of energy poverty.
She however, noted that the use of diesel and fuel must be minimized in order to adopt use of cleaner energy by developing countries.
