FCCPC, FRSC Join Force To Ensure Safe Haulage Operations In Nigeria
It was a gathering of stakeholders in the road sector and some critical partners to rob minds on how to make Nigerian road safe especially for haulage operations. Statistics revealed that over one point three million people died annually with more than fifty million injured as a result of road crashes globally.
While in Nigeria, over ten thousand road crashes occurred annually with an average of over five thousand deaths. The alarming figure spurred relevant authorities to sensitize stakeholders on how to promote sanity on the roads despite the challenges of collapsed infrastructure.
Speaking at a one day joint stakeholders’ forum in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman, Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Babatunde Irukera expressed dismay over high rate of road accidents involving haulage in the country.
He said the reason for the collaboration between FCCPC and the Federal Road Safety Commission is to ensure that there is Safe haulage operations in the Nigeria.
The the FRSC Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi represented by the Deputy Corps Marshal, Administration and Human Resources, Ojeme Ewhrudjakpor said the event is aimed at actualizing the second phase of a ten year Nigerian Road Safety Strategy.
