2022 Census: What Nigerians Stand To Gain- NPC

The National Population Commission has once again indicated plans to conduct the 2022 National Population and Housing Census that Nigerians would be proud of its outcome. The Commission therefore, has commenced preparation for the exercise with over 90 percent completion of enumeration area demarcation of 772 local government area across the country.

NPC is also training various categories of it’s staff including federal commissioners who at a just concluded 2 day capacity building initiative held in Abuja expressed optimism in the possibility of conducting the census exercise this year.

According to Dr Palibo Harry, federal commissioner representing Rivers state, the commission has concluded arrangement to introduce innovations to make the project a huge success.

The Commissioners further spoke on the possibility of conducting the exercise amidst security challenges as well as what the nation’s stands to benefit.

Why President Buhari is yet to issue a proclamation to enable the commission kick off activities for the census, the sum of over 178 billion naira was appropriated for the NPC in the 2022 budget. The last census was conducted in 2006 in Nigeria by the then president Olusegun Obasanjo administration.
