The Nigeria’s National Broadcasting Commission NBC has disclosed plans to establish an institution for broadcast policy and regulations in the country.
Director General of the Commission Balarabe Ilelah gave the indication at a news conference in Abuja. He said the institution which is expected to takeoff in the first quarter of 2022 will ensure professionalism in the broadcast industry.
The NBC boss also revealed that the commission has initiated partnership with the National University Commission NUC and National Board for Technical Education for broadcast curricular accreditation at Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The NBC DG further used the occasion to demand payment of over four billion naira broadcast license fee owed the commission by over one hundred Radio and Television stations across the country.
The NBC also indicated commitment to ensure smooth transition of the Digital Switch Over project in Nigeria for better Television contents and employment generation to Nigerians.
