Nigeria Plays Unifying Role In ECOWAS – Wase
The Deputy Speaker of the 9th Nigerian House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase says Nigeria’s role in the regional is to Integrate people, ensure security, and upholding best democratic practice in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region. He disclosed this at the opening ceremony of the ECOWAS Parliament’s Second Ordinary Session in Abuja. The deputy speaker said Nigeria has always intervened to instill regional security and integration at trying times. He however, expressed dismay of lack of intra- regional trading by member states who preferred doing businesses with other continents even in the area of agricultural produce. On the stance of ECOWAS on Mali and Guinea, he said the regional body will only interface with civilians representatives not military junta.
