The Federal Government has commenced implementation of compulsory Covid 19 vaccine policy for it’s workers in the federal capital territory,Abuja. As early as 7am on Wednesday 1st December ,security agencies were stationed at the federal Secretariat complex to enforce the policy. Civil servants and members of the public who are unable to provide proof of vaccination and a negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) a were refused entry to their offices and directed to take their jab at a vaccination stand within the complex. indications from the scenario further suggest that those affected are not comfortable with the policy saying it contravenes their right to decide if they want to be vaccinated or not. Speaking with Channel Network Afrique, some of the affected persons wants the policy to be reviewed. For some others, while the gesture is commendable,it should also be extended to the private sector. Recall, the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 had announced that civil servants who are unable to show proof of vaccination and negative PCR tests would not be allowed to access government buildings from December 1, 2021. The policy is part of options been explored by the Government to ensure 70 percent of Nigerians are vaccinated in the next 2 years.
