Stakeholders Reject FG’s Policy To Attract Best Brains To Teaching Profession.

All Former president of Academic Staff Union of Universities, Abiodun Ogunyemi has Faulted the Federal Government’s plan to pay student studing education in public tertiary institutions. Former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU Prof Abiodun Ogunyemi seems not to be at home with the policy, describing it as a misplaced priority. Ogunyemi who spoke at the symposium of the colleges of education academic staff union in Abuja,however called on government to rather channel such energy to policies that will improve the working conditions of teachers. The symposium as expected attracted key stakeholders in the education sector who took turns to condemned the move to politicised the education sector. They further expressed worry over the continuous approval for establishment of new institutions by the FG. It would be recalled that the federal government as part of it’s strategy to reposition the teaching profession approved payment of 75,000 naira to be paid to every student studying education in public universities per semester while those in Colleges of Education are to get 50,000.
