As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the 2021 International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, authorities have reinstated commitment of Nigerian government to protect journalists across the country. The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami gave the assurance at an event for the commemoration of the day in Abuja. Malami noted that the federal government is determined to uphold its constitutionally saddled responsibility of ensuring strict adherence to the rule of law and bringing to an end trends of impunity for crime in all ramifications. For other stakeholders at the meeting, the safety of journalists in Nigeria can not be discussed in isolation from other killings going on around the country hence the need for the government to do more especially in the protection of lives and properties. The United Nations General Assembly declared November 2nd as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists.
