PFN Offers Scholarship To children Of Incarcerated Parents.

Report from the federal government indicates that Nigeria has the highest number of out of school children in sub Saharan Africa. The number of out of school children in Nigeria is estimated at over 10 million. Of this figure, over 600 are children of incarcerated parents in various correctional facilities across the country. This development, the Prison fellowship of Nigeria (PFN)says informed the birth of the Promise path education programme, an initiative designed for children who are vulnerable and marginalised. Working in collaboration with the Prison fellowship International, the PFN at a ceremony in Suleja Niger state awarded educational scholarship to 70 children of the targeted population. Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman, Niger state PFN, Pastor Peter Okere said the gesture is aimed at transforming them into responsible citizens. He however called on other well meaning Nigerians to join hands with the Group to reduce the number of out of school children in the country Some of the beneficiaries commended the Fellowship for the initiative describing it as life changing. The Prison fellowship of Nigeria is a faith based non governmental organization with mandate to reach out to inmates in correctional facilities including their families.
