The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has expressed readiness to conduct the 6th November Governorship election in Anambra. This is as the commission says it has written to the Anambra State government to declare a public holiday for the training of adhoc Election duty staff. The commission is deploying about 26,000 ad-hoc staff for the conduct of the election. Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Nwachukeu Orji disclosed this while speaking at the dialogue session on the upcoming Anambra State governorship election organised by the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room in Abuja. He expressed confidence that the election would take place, saying the security situation in the state was not out of control. Meanwhile, the Convener of the Civil Society Situation Room, Eneh Obi, in her opening remarks, described the violence and insecurity building up ahead of the governorship election as a cause for concern, warning that it would be counter productive for the poll not to hold. The session further suggested need to engage religious and traditional rulers to mobilise the people on the importance of having a conducive atmosphere for a peaceful and secured electoral process in the south east state.
