The National Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has ratified the recommendations of the Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led zoning committee. The committee proposed zoning of the national chairman’s office to the North for the party’s forthcoming elective convention slated for October 30th and 31st. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan disclosed this at the end of a closed door meeting of the NEC at the party’s secretariat in Abuja. Meanwhile, Former Vice President and the PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections Atiku Abubakar have a contrary opinion to the NEC decision as he insists on the idea of open presidential ticket. Indications from analysts suggests that the PDP zoning arrangement has brightened the possibility of a southern presidential candidate of the party in 2023.
