After its Emergency National Executive Council Meeting, the National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD, has suspended its two months nationwide strike it embarked upon since 2nd of August to press home its demands. The newly elected president of the association, Godiya Ishaya disclosed this at a news conference in Abuja. He said the doctors decided to go on an indefinite strike after all negotiations between them and the federal government on issues bordering on their welfare broke down. While poor Nigerians groaned under the strike, the federal government employed No Work No pay policy to force the doctors back to work. Unfortunately, the move including judgement by the National Industrial Court in Abuja did not yield the desired results. This the Doctors confirmed may have attracted presidential and other stakeholders intervention. Meanwhile, the association has given the federal government six weeks ultimatum to address the issues of dispute. Other resolutions include payment of arrears of salaries and allowances owned its members as well as withdrawal of suit at the Industrial court.
