As Nigeria commemorates its 61st independence anniversary, some major draw backs according to some analysts that led to the nation’s economic woes is lack of love for country, greed and poor leadership. They also pointed corruption as one major cancer that has eaten deep into the fabric of the nation. To this end, Channel Network Afrique, CNA, went into town to feel the pulse of some Abuja residents on the performance of the country so far. Some Nigerians feel that six decades on, the country has little or nothing to show for especially in terms of economic growth and development. They also attributed the massive depreciation of the local currency – the Naira – to the US Dollar to Nigeria’s inability to diversify its economy from over reliance on oil sector. Some however, expressed hope that Nigeria will in no distance time come out of it present economic challenge. With this submission, it behoove leaders at all levels to work hard in restoring good governance that will lead to economic growth and development of the country in order not to let “the labour of our heroes past” not to be in vein.
