Disabilities Commission Seeks Service Centres At Airports.

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities has once again raised concerns over treatment of Persons with Disabilities by Aviation authorities and want the federal government to establish disability services centres across the nation’s airports. Executive Secretary of the Commission,James Lalu who stated when he received a delegation from the Center for Ability Rehabilitation and Empowerment (CARE) led by it’s Executive Director Dr Chike Okogwu in Abuja described PWDs with a population of about 31 million as major stakeholders in the nation’s developmental agenda. He said, it is disheartening that 2 years after the enactment of the disabilities prohibition act,PWDs are still being discriminated against by Aviation authorities and operators. The commission however indicated plans to initiate policies that will change the narrative. Earlier, the leader of delegation and Executive Director of CARE, Dr Chike Okogwu recounted his experience at the airport indicating discriminating policies of airline operators. Other issues raised at the meeting includes making the nation’s airports and services more friendly for PWDs.
