A 19 year – old candidate in the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Chinedu Ifesinachi John has been handed over to the Nigeria Police for investigation by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. (JAMB) John who had claimed to scored 380 in the examination conducted in June this year said he was surprised to receive 265 from the board after the results were released. Following the alleged “alteration” of the UTME score, his father, John Ifenkpam approached an Enugu – based lawyer, Ikeazor Akaiwe who wrote to JAMB for another opportunity for the boy to retake the examination and demanded N1 billion as damages. This prompted the invitation of the candidate ,his father and lawyers to the JAMB headquarters in Abuja. On arrival, the boy was given few minutes to come clean in a closed session with his father and lawyers about the results he was parading but insisted that his original score from the examination was 380. Track up However, documentary evidence tendered by the board indicates that John actually scored 265 not the 380 he had claimed. JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede who accused the candidate of result tempering listed him among 10 others to be prosecuted by the Board for the alleged offence. The Candidate lawyer further appealed for further investigation by the Board. Meanwhile, after extensive investigation by the JAMB authorities it was discovered that the candidate saved his sister’s number on his phone as 55019 and used same to send the fake result to his phone. He later confessed to the crime and pleaded for mercy.
